Song of the Moment

At any given time, there's always one song that catches my fancy more than the others. Inspite of having a CD with 16 of my current favorites, its the song I always skip to when I start driving the car. And its the number I play first when I power up my iPod. So I end up listening to the song a few times everyday. I always sing along and it always makes me feel just a li'l bit better. Sometimes it has been a song that caught my fancy on the first listen itself(Aararai Kodi... or Khajuraho...) and sometimes it has been one that gradually grew on me(like Suttum Vizhi Chudare...).

Right now, that song is Dhaavani Poatta Deepavali... from Sandakkozhi. It is a rather old-fashioned song with minimal beats and simple lyrics but is one that has grown on me. Almost all the sections in the song are very catchy and sung without any frills by Vijay Yesudas and Shreya Ghoshal. The brief gap followed by a nasal Haaa during the interlude and the line that ends in Angelu... are particularly attractive parts.

Balaji,
It's my favourite as well....this keeps playing repeatedly in Sun Music (we get Sun Music for 2 hours every day). Although Vijay Yesudas is not viewed as outstanding...he has done well in this song. even the picturisation is quite good. My next favourite is Oru Naalil (Remix) from Pudhupettai.

I also liked 'Thaavani potta' on first hearing itself. A simple tune and Vijay's voice made it instantly likeable and the fact that it is played in Sun Music every hours helps :)

I am hooked to Godfather music right now - http://www.megaupload.com/?d=MG0EZPPE

Though not the best of ARR, he has delivered songs that a Ajith-KSR masala movie deserves.

And, the other album that was surprisingly good was Vidyasagar's 'Thambi' as I didn't had much expectations on this. The album is typical Vidaysagar.

Check out his attempt in Reethigowlai - 'Sudum Nilavu' song which ends up like a mix of two greater reethigowlai songs of the past - IR's classic 'Chinna Kannan Azhaikiraan...' and ARR's 'Azhagaan Raatchasiye...')

That's one of my favorite song too Balaji... and I've been skipping to it too now that I took "Theepidikka" off (that was the most trying decision I've made... besides, I got 25 other CD's with that song on lol...)

Anyways, another great thing about that song is that it's picturized nicely too...!!! Thank god!

BB: Interestingly, the song that I have on continously play (just one song!) is Dhinam Dhinam Deepavali from Godfather! :D

Kaps: Oru Naalil (Remix) is nice. But don't you think that the fast pace of the remix masks all the awful Tam pronunciation that is so obvious in the slow version, right from the first line till the last. Yuvan Shankar Raja manages to make even me, not the best of Tam speakers, cringe with his pronunciation.

I love this song. My current list also include Dailamo Dailamo(Dishyum) and Eno Kangal(Kalvanyn Kaadhali, love listening to Sadhana Sargam's voice).

kaps, yep. vijay yesudas just kept it simple and thats exactly what the song needs. he's got a soft voice but not as smooth as his dad's.

nithya, we don't get sun music. and havent been watching much of sun tv these days either. so havet seen the song only once so far... when i saw the movie.

mav, havent been able to download 'godfather' songs yet from my usual site. will try the megaupload :)

another blogger too had written nice things about 'thambi' songs. need to check them out...

venkat, yep. the simplicity is its biggest attraction...

merino, yep. glad it wasnt messed up by being picturized as a regular duet...

anti, 1 song on continuous play? high recommendation indeed :)

don't remember 'oru naalil' since the kamal song and 'enga area' are my favs right now. but second u on YSR's awful pronunciation. and his high pitches too...

packer, sadhana sargam for u. shreya ghoshal for me :)
