Thotti Jaya Audio

Harris Jayaraj is definitely one of my favorite music directors and I've enjoyed most of his albums. He's composed quite a few songs like Vaseegaraa...(Minnale), Uyirin Uyire...(Kaakka Kaakka), Mudhal Mudhalaai...(Lesaa Lesaa) and Chella Kiliye...(Chellame) that still make me scroll through my iPod playlists to search them out. Coming from him, Thotti Jaya is a disappointment with only 2 numbers making the cut.

1. Achu Vella...
A folksy dance number whose stanzas remind me of Kokku Meena Thingumaa... from Kovil. Inspite of Andankakka..., I don't think folk-type songs are HJ's area and this song confirms that opinion.

2. Jaari Singaari...
Talk about a letdown! The start of the song, with its humming and slow tune, promises a haunting, sultry number like Thoodhu Varumaa.... But the expectation is shortlived and the song inexplicably turns into another folk number. But the tune and beats sound like they will suit Simbhu's dance style.

3. Theme Music
Sounds like a cross between new age and church music. Its seems odd when a Tamil word like Nethiyadi appears out of the blue after some celtic-sounding words. Sounds similar to the Anniyan theme music but just doesn't seem to fit in here as well as it did there(especially since the album's got a name like Thotti Jaya!)

4. Thotta Powerda...
One of those now-familiar hero introduction songs with lines like paathu modhudaa, pala paer paatha aaLudaa. I think this is HJ's first song of this kind but he adds nothing new to the song.

5. Uyire En Uyire...
After I'd almost given up on the album comes this wonderful melodious number. It starts off with some wonderfully soothing humming and Karthik's slightly intense way of singing is perfectly suited for the number. The four line section(Nijandhaane Keladi...) that ends every part of the song is great and guaranteed to get you humming.

6. Yaaridamum...
This song once again plays with our expectations but in a good way(unlike Jaari Singaari...). It starts off in group song mode like Sariya Thavaraa... from 12B. But the Mazhaichaaral... bit is slower(but very catchy) and leads into a very melodious song. Harini's voice is very smooth.

I'm with u on this....is HJ biting more than what he can chew? he has this policy of accepting only 4 movies per year. IMO he is done for the year...Anniyan, Thotti Jeya, Ghajini and Vettaiyadu Vilayadu. the songs are quite average....the last 2 songs on your list are the only good ones.

I like both 'Yaaridamum' and 'Uyire'. Karthik as usual is excellent in Uyire. Btw, did you check out Karthik's number in Ghajini 'Oru Maalai...'. Great singing!!!

HJ is just relaxing after spending so much time and energy in Anniyan, I guess.. Both Thotti Jaya and Gajini are below par.. nothing exciting.. We need to probably wait till Vettaiyadu Vilayadu..

i hope you people don t just base your opinions on songs...

anniyan wasn't excellent anyway..
its sales dropped tremendously by the third week

Ghajini is the movie to look forward.
Surya is my favourite and his role in the movie is like some sort of juniour donald trump avenging the death of his raped sister...The style according some sources may share the shades of Nolan's Memento..But i am hoping to see Ghajini getting at least 3 stars...Hmm..no any action flick getting above 2.5 stars this year

*ps
a dude even told me the producer hired a personal jet for surya for a week at a whopping rate of 5 lakhs per day
at least the movie still looks refreshing though only "Oru maalai" and "Sutrum Villi" seems to be standout in the album

Lets hope Murugadoss-Dheena nad Ramana fame does not disappoint us

Ps Balaji anna---how many star Ponniyan selvan would probably get?.. :( another 2.5 star??

Lol

since i havent listened to thotti jaya (pora poakkule jatti jambavan-nu oru padam eduppange polarukku...!!), will write something tangentially related to this-- the director Durai has had one awesome movie on his resume -- Mugavari, his impressive debut...but his follow-up was a train-wreck of a motion picture-- Vikram's "Kadhal Sadugudu," but then again stories had surfaced at that time that Ajith and his co-conspirator NIC Arts Chakravarthy (who produced this movie) had planned a flop for Vikram all along...!! so, will keep my fingers crossed for Thotti Jaya...I liked Simbu in Manmadhan and hopefully he can consolidate on that...

reg. Harris "dabara thalayan" Jayaraj, I think his best album till date is "Kaaka Kaaka." best melody: oru ooril (for personal reasons!!). best catchy number: ennai konjam maatri (harris JOyaraj list aayduchu baa!)
