2 Rajni Films?!

First came the news that the rumor about Rajni doing Shankar's Robot might be true after all. The Chairman of Ayngaran International, which is one of the two production houses behind the film, confirmed that Rajni, Shankar and Rahman would come together for the film, which would be made in 4 languages. There's nothing yet from either Rajni or Shankar, obviously the 2 most important people in the project. But with the Silver Jubilee celebrations of Sivaji, coming up on January 11, I'm hoping that we'll hear about Robot, one way or the other, from either of them.

Today, there is news of Rajni doing a quickie for his mentor KB's Kavithalaya Productions before starting Robot. The film, to be directed by P.Vasu, is supposed to be a remake of recent Malayalam hit Katha Parayumbol. That film had Mammootty play a superstar actor and Sreenivasan, who is also responsible for the script, play a barber and revolved around the friendship between the two. The news item goes as far as mentioning that Pasupathy will play the barber and Vidyasagar will score the music. Based on the story, Katha Parayumbol definitely cannot be transformed into a typical Rajni movie(even by P.Vasu). So if this is news is indeed true, I'm guessing that Rajni will have a cameo as the actor. But hey, as long as it gets thalaivar to the big screen, I'll take it!

i really hope that shankar does not subject us to yet another vigilante story...he's used every trick in the book to make these robin hood-ish tales that i am getting tired...if robot is going to have a digitized rajni talking about corruption, i am going to puke! Shankar, remember Rajni can ACT. think abt it!

reg. the other movie, i've always enjoyed cameos coz the effective ones (parthiban in "anthapuram" is my all-time fav cameo) really stay in one's mind in spite of the limited screen time. i think rajni with his star power can really infuse life into a cameo...

will look fwd to a fun 2008.

btw, bb, look fwd to your 2007 recap...

Was'nt Robot Shankar's dream project? So one would have expected him to make the least number of compromises and try something diff. But now that Rajni is in it the Robot is going to mouth punchlines and sing duets :-)

And regarding the mallu film remake-how many malayalam movies is "Pee" Vasu going to slaughter in his life? I wish someone retires him soon. He should have been retired right after Chinna Thambi but unfortunately for us he is still around.

Balaji, I have to agree with Naren here. Not too excited about Robot, which would take a good 2-3 years in the making and that kind of wait is just ridiculous for Thalaivar fans like us. about the Malayalam remake - everything about the news makes me feel good except for the fact that P.Vasu will be directing it. Like Vijay said, he needs to be retired soon.

naren, wouldn't go so far as saying 'ridiculous' but yeah, not too thrilled right now. Rajni in a sci-fi movie by Shankar just doesn't sound right. and am really scared of P.Vasu directing a movie dominated by sentiments!

kumar, it probably will :)

ram, exactly what i wanted to say about cameos. however bad the movie is, the actors in cameos usually come off looking good. and rajni himself has some great cameos(peddarayudu) in his career :)

vijay, yeah it was his dream project. time to see how lofty his dreams are :)

filbert, yeah, shankar takes too long for his films and thats the scariest part of 'robot'. and u took the words outa my mouth on that remake. was excited when i read about it right upto when the director's name was mentioned!

Hahaha...Vijay Saar...Yen nenjila paalavatheenga...Balaji ignored me last time when i talked abt Pee Vasu. I got scared that I somehow had stumbled on a Pee-Vasu Fan Blogsite and chose to stay silent after that.

Here is the story for the Malayalam Remake of Pee Vasu. Rajini will have a Oomai Sister and Ezhai Mother(sorry cheran, you don't own Ezhais, remember?), he will be a Maaji Police Officer settled in Village with his Kurudu-Wife. And the flashback will begin to roll telling how the MaaMedhai's wife became Kurudu.

The climax will contain a stunning sequence where the Oomai Thangachi will regain her voice using Advanced-Isotopic-Voicing-Technology(Our thalaivar was a scientist at the Los Alamos nuclear lab and somehow his Robot project got aborted). Thalaivar sings a Chinna Thambi style song remembering his ex-lover from Los Alamos.

Now, Shankar's movie will continue from here as the Second Part.

Thamizh Makkale - your intelligence will be suitably rewarded this year.

When I read that Rajini was doing a film for Balachander I was excited, but then was disappointed when I read that Balachander was only producing it. And that too with P. Vasu in the director's chair!

The only thing I am hoping for from Robot is ARR's soundtrack.

I've created a poster for the film, Robot, which should be up on a couple of sites in the future.

Robot, as someone mentioned earlier will not be having Eavi Varma or Rambo Rajkumar.

Rajini will play the professer, aged about 35 in the film, who is rejected by society who thinks he is mad. He comes up with a creation which at first seems to be ingenious but at second instanc eseems to be a threat. How he saves the people of the world from the Robot, using himself forms the crux of the story.

Rajni's character is called Professer Sivaji Sivakumar, while he christens the robot as 'The Boss'.

Also confimred is that two heroines will play the lead roles. One as a scientist another as an actress. Deepika Padukone, Trisha and Nayanthara have been approached for various roles as has Amitabh Bachchan, Bobby Deol and Dharmendra.

Popular actors could be roped into play themselves for an event in the movie such as Madhavan, Karthik and Surya.

kollai, sorry if i ignored u in some other post. was surely unintentional. i'm defly not a P.Vasu fan :)

srivatsan, eppo sir kaetten? ofcourse wouldn't mind it but would rather have a different director :)

ravi, seeing KB's name as director wouldn't have excited me much either. i think he's way past his prime :)

krillin-vijayan, nice, vivid imagination :)

KB has become a psycho in his vayasaana kaalam.

Only a pervert can paravasam adanjufy seeing the crap he turned out with Maddy and Simran. And his Poi was absolute Psycho byproduct.

KB should turn himself to a psychiatrist and do a detailed examination on his demented mind before he can turn more dangerous and do more harm to society.

Having seen "Kadha parayumbol", a heart warming well-made movie, it lent more weight to Srinivasan, the barber and Mammooty gets into play only towards the end. But P.Vasu, like what he did with "Manichitrathazhu", he would introduce Rajini's character right from the beginning and might screw up quite a bit. But like "Chandramukhi", it has chances of working well too.. The Mallu movie is a good choice though to intermediately fill the gap that will be created making Robot. We shouldn't forget Sultan making his visit inbetween.
All in all, the words "P.Vasu" and "Scientist", do not look right in these projects. While we can trust Shankar to do some gimmicks with the "scientist", probably we can be more assured by replacing P.Vasu with K.S.Ravikumar...

i think with "Robot", shankar and Rajni are trying to win a broad spectrum of audience. Instead on regional market alone, they want to focus on bollywood and overseas market as well. Remember that science fiction movies like "krissh" and "Koi mil gaya" were Big hits! Mybe somethinh like may happen to "Robot". After all Bollywood do love this kind of movies!

First of all - a Sci Fi themed movie in Tamil may be a first. That too with Shankar's grandeur may just click. Line that up against a suitable character for Superstar - either a maverick Scientist or a runaway "Mottai Sivaji" styled renegade Robot - think Terminator 1 (bad killer robot turns good vigilante robot). To savour this more, imagine dual roles for Superstar - the gallant scientist pulling all stops against the renegade robot. Either way, Robot - or ROBO - should be path breaking... Superstar clad in black-leather batsuit-type get-up should send the pulse racing ...
