Ghajini Update
Though not quite matching the (dubious) record set by Anniyan, Surya's eagerly anticipated Ghajini has been postponed a few times already. It has now been cleared by the censors and it looks like it might finally make it to the theaters on September 29. The censor board members "appreciated its racy and slick presentation" and those who saw the film(wonder who they are!) are "raving about it and Surya's performance". Lets hope the film ends this rather long drought of really good Tamil movies.
I last wrote about the film almost a month back when the movie's release date was supposed to be September 2. A few updates since then.... The movie's story, with its protagonist searching for a killer while afflicted with short-term memory loss, sounds similar to Memento. Question is how much Murugadoss can simplify and 'Tamilize' the rather complex original. I'm almost willing to bet that he does not follow the brilliantly original way Memento was constructed.
The movie has its own website that follows the usual template for Tamil movie websites and contains a brief synopsis, details about the cast and crew, stills, trailers and wallpapers. Nothing special. But the stills and trailers show that Nayanthara is definitely part of the movie.
The movie is also the first of 4 biggies for Asin. So we'll be seeing a whole lot of her in the next couple of months. The lady's so busy she had to miss out on Kamal's Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu (but Kamal's not one to let anyone go that easily and I'm sure he'll rope her in for Dasaavadhaaram. Even if he has jodis for only half his supposed 10 roles, he still needs 5 cuties :-)
PS: While on the topic of Surya, Sify has some pics from his next venture Aaru. Surya(in rowdy get-up a la Nandhaa), Trisha(looking very cute!), Hari(director) and Charan(producer) make a potent combination for sure. Lets hope Aaru hits a sixer :-)

Ah Balaji... I cant believe you are a fan of Trisha... =P.
As I was reading the part.. "Trisha(looking very cute!)"! First thing that pops into my mind that a guy in our class once said.. "Cute is a nice way of saying you're ugly"... lolololol
looking fwd to watching ghajini for sure. Hoping there are no further delays.
Cheers :-)
I saw the promos of Ghajini on Sun TV. It featured 'Oru Maalai' and 'Suttum Vizhi'. Dont remember much of Suttum's picturization but 'Oru Maalai' disappointed me a little. The song's lyrics is so fantastic and made visualise something like an early evening, lotsa clouds, empty roads, just the hero and heroine..:-)
But what I saw was Surya dancing with a group in something like a beach resort with Asin walking in all directions.
Usually any movies with big hype doesnt satisfy much movie buffs but we'll see if Ghajini lives up to its hype. But personally I think the movie should be good in terms of its action and a good storyline but what makes me doubt is that cant it suit the Indian style of screenplay.
well said about the recent 'duds'.. after anniyan, no movie worth total entertainment.. All hopes rest on Ghajini now... somehow i have the feeling that it wont disappoint us..
I agree with Maverick. In case if the trailer is really the trailer of the oru maalai song, it can join the worst picturisation category!
its been awhile since a music album has gotten me all charged up about a movie...this was the case with ARR in the 90s but I dont think I've expressed such unbridled enthusiasm for a movie b4 its release...thanks to Suttum Vizhi Chudarey and Oru Maalai...I am going nuts over Ghazini and am eagerly awaiting its release...the fact that Asin is the heroine doesnt hurt either ;)
merino, that's true sometimes. but not in this case! Here cute is just a way of saying cute :-)
vidya, thanx for dropping by. and join the club :-)
mav, actually i'm not sure if i've seen 'oru maalai'. but i remember 'suttum vizhi'. wasn't too impressed. surya's steps looked kinda odd...
anon, true. screenplay is key and can make or break 'ghajini'. considering memento's screenplay, i'm really curious about what murugadoss has done with it.
skanda, if u've seen 'memento', u'll c that its not split personality.
no, havent listened to 'mazhai' yet. the place i d/l songs from had the album for a couple of days but removed it b4 i could d/l. not sure why.
I read his interview in a tamil mag. Quite endearing! intha surya enga, antha surya enga!!! :-)
Someone mentioned picutrization.. To me, "oru maalai" & "sutrum vizhi" song look the same...! I'm disappointed bleh =/
Disappointing, that Gajni is yet another one of those Hollywood-inspired flicks. For a while Tamil directors should be forced not to watch any Hollywood flicks and all English DVDs should be banned in Chennai :-) I am sure Ramana has worked to change the screenplay, I cant imagine having the reverse chronological complex screenplay that Memento had. Even a linear screenplay is many times confusing to our makkals. Hope Gajni doesnt turn out to be another 12B
