Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon
Are you guys aware of a very interesting game(for movie buffs ofcourse!) called ‘Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon’? It was developed by three students in the USA and according to this game, any Hollywood actor can be hooked to actor Kevin Bacon in 6 steps or less through common movies that they have been in.
For example, if you select Cameron Diaz, the links would be:
Cameron Diaz was in Charlie’s Angels 2 with
Demi Moore who was in A Few Good Men with
KEVIN BACON
So Cameron Diaz has a Bacon number of 2
And if you select Bruce Willis, the steps would be:
Bruce Willis was in Death Becomes Her with
Meryl Streep who was in A River Wild with
KEVIN BACON
So Bruce Willis also has a Bacon number of 2
The game is hugely popular, with websites(here's one) and software programs to determine the linkage. But these programs have huge databases stored in them and establish the links through little-known actors and/or movies. IMO, its more fun figuring it out with movies we’ve seen or atleast know.
I was talking about this to a friend of mine and asked him to throw out the names of a couple of actors who I would then try to link to Bacon in 6 steps or less. Since I mentioned ‘any actor’, he threw me a curveball by giving me our own aachi Manorama!
I had to think about it a little bit but I eventually did link her to Bacon with a Bacon number of 5. Anyone wanna take a shot at the linking I did? Can anyone do the linking with fewer than 5 steps?

Yeah, we have good links with Hollywood through Puri's and few others so it is possible to everyone within Bacon 5. (Even Sukumar of Kaadhal had it)
I remember another of this 'link' thing: Anyone can be linked with anyone else via 5 or 6 (i dont remember) links (as person one knows).. this was a famous research done by someone and it always worked.. !!

zero, u're at the stage i was when i 1st heard of the game. i was hooked and ended up trying to find the links with all actors :-)
as i mentioned, i didn't go thro the oracle or imdb to link manorama to bacon. i had no idea about a movie called 'code 46' and so didnt use that link. and good guess but no, i didnt use 'bloodstone' either :) my number was 5 but all very well-known movies.
gp, i think u r talking about the 'degrees of separation' thing which was used as the base for this game. its mentioned in the link i've provided.

Why Kevin bacon? This game can be played about with any fairly popular actor or am I missing something?
vijay, true. infact its been proved that a few other actors can be linked better(i.e lesser # of steps) to more # of actors than bacon. But the game was 1st developed with bacon in mind. the students said that he's starred in so many different genres and with so many diverse casts that he was the natural choice.
..only Tamil & English movies-aa?

Forget desi KB. I have come up with an idea for a game show for Sun TV (or any other channel).
Each team will be given two movie people (not just actors, just to make it interesting). They have to connect them within a certain period of time.
