Ghajini Audio

While ARR's songs typically take a few listens to grow on me, my favorite Harris Jayaraj songs have been of the "I liked them when I heard them the first time" kind. Ghajini is I think the first HJ album that has taken some time to grow on me. I wasn't too impressed the first couple of listens but have gradually grown to like most of the songs. Final Verdict: Much better than Thotti Jaya but Anniyan's still his best so far this year.

1. Oru Maalai...
Very catchy song sung nicely by Karthik. Inspite of the scary, rap-like start, the song falls in the melodious category. But it is not slow and gets our feet tapping. Karthik sings the high pitches quite comfortably. The lyrics are quite nice as the singer admires his woman(for instance, staying awake the entire night to watch her sleep).

2. X Machi... (or is it X Maatri...?)
A typical HJ song. Sounds like one of the usual item numbers with the accented singing, the self-praising lyrics and dance beats. The 2 stanzas remind one of Thoodhu Varumaa... in both the lyrics and the style of singing.

3. Suttum Vizhi...
This is one song that has really grown on me. Initially it felt like the song had no real tune to speak of and that it sounded more like a poetry recital. But the gentle tune and beats have grown on me and this is the number I'm humming the most these days. The lyrics range from good(comparing eyes to black and white flowers) to bad(thinking of you when i sneeze?!)

4. Rahatula...
Has a slow prologue before turning into a faster number(HJ's been doing this quite often). Anupama's voice is perfectly suited for the song and I love the way she says yarala vazhala varala in the 1st stanza. The Halla Thulla bit in the middle reminded me of Hulla Gulla in the Poovukkenna Poottu... number from Bombay.

5. Rangola...
A folksy number that fares better than the folk numbers in Thotti Jaya. The way the 2 stanzas end reminds us of Andankaakka...

Oru maalai is a really nice song, esp. thanks to Karthik.. That was my pick of the album..

Suttum Vizhi is my second best choice.. after listening a few times at raaga, i decide which songs i have to download.. so i d/l only them and load them in m iPod. From all the recent movies, not more than 2 or 3 songs could impress me that way.. somehow, no album with all good songs has come out in the last 4-5 months..

bb, am going nuts over "suttum vizhi." i find some songs extremely romantic, maybe due to the lyrics or the lilting tune or whatever (i was going to add, "or maybe vayasu kolaaru!")...this is my current favorite...i esp like the play on words...e.g., "un kanngall vandai unnum pookkall enben!" (nice imagination!). yeah i too liked the "karuppu-vellai pookkall undaa? un kannil naan kanden" line a lot...very cute...enakku thonaama poachu...thonirndha sneha-ta sollirupen (naan sollala, vayasu kolaaru thaan thaandavam aaduthu!).

i also like the slightly naughty lines, "mellinam maarbil kanden...vallinam vizhiyil kanden"...reminds one of the line in "anbe anbe" (jeans) but very poetic nevertheless...

Makkaley Ennai Manniyungall...Konjam Unarchivasa Pattuvitten!!!

have you people watched the trailer of ghajini...its very good and very much of the standard of Annyan's awesome trailer.

i thibk you should really check out ghajini's trailer at nowrunning.com

well, lets really hope this movie would please everyone and lets hope it does superb business in Box office.

However, i am kind of worried though as this movie has most of the wording in English like "she was murdered " and "find Him,Kill him". well itmight do good business in A centres perhaps but how about B and C centres??

Remember Alavanthan? Good Movie which bombeb badly in B.O

*p.s it is releasing in sep 9 i assume.

I really love the Rangola song... Also Sutrum vizhi sudarey...

As for the thinking of you when sneezing part... This is the thing we do in our place... I dont know if its my gramathu thingie... but when you sneeze, ppl say that someone's thinkin of you... you make someone pick a number, and you figure out what letter falls on that number, and you figure out who has a name starting with that letter that you know, and that person is thinking of you :).

Soooooo.. when i heard that line, it just made me smile, cuz I was familiar with that thingie.. *shrug*

I know that when you also "purai erufying" someone is thinking of you... but we do the sneezing thingie too :P

gp, i can never listen to songs on my comp. so i simply d/l all songs to my ipod. still have about 1.8G. so will have to become selective after it fills up i guess :)

ram, i noted those lines too. sexy but not vulgar.

merino, good point. saying "someone is thinking of u" when u sneeze is a common thing. for me the word 'thummal' just didn't fit into the song. but u're inference is probably right...

'Suttum Vizhi' start is average. Sriram Parthasarathy voice sounds konjam pathetic. Improves drastically once Bombay Jayashree (love her voice) steps in. But I think 'Oru Maalai' is the best song in the movie.

My **** songs in my ipod from recent movies:
Ghajini - Oru Maalai
Kanda Naal Mudhal - Merke Merke, Pani Thuli
Adhu Oru KK - Kaatu Vazhi (this one's *****), Andha Naal Nyabagam
ONOK - Khajiraho
Ponniyin Selvan - Siruthooral (sounds like a mix of old 90's songs though), Do Re Me
Thotti Jaya - Uyire En Uyire, Yaaridamum
Ah Aah - Anbe Aaruyire
Arindhum A - Konjam Konjam

Ghajini has the same storyline as the English movie 'Memento'. Check out imdb.com. Shows the same thing as Ghajini. Hopefully it's atleast a good copy like Nayagan was a great film based on the blockbuster 'The Godfather'. No offense to anyone Anniyan sucked. The whole concept was great but the way it turned out was plain stupid.
