- Jo and Surya are now proud parents of a baby girl. The baby was born Friday, August 10th at 9.22pm. Friday was Aadi VeLLi, supposedly a very auspicious day, and so the parents must be doubly thrilled. Congratulations to the new parents!

- Our Ilaya Thalapathy is now a doctor! Vijay has been conferred an honorary doctorate by Dr. M.G.R University. The recognition is to "honour Vijay's spectacular achievement in the movie industry and rising to glorious heights at such a young age and his contribution to the cause of the poor and the downtrodden through social welfare activities". He will receive the degree on August 27 at the convocation, which will be presided over by noted scientist and chairman of ISRO, Dr. Madhavan Nair. First Pokkiri was a superhit and now he is going to be Dr.Vijay. This is turning out to be a good year for the actor!

On this day, I thank god that I did not do my PhD and get a doctorate. Its value has been badly compromised.

Just what we needed to inject some degree of credibility to the world of Tamil cinema - Dr Vijay who will single handedly heal us all of our yearning of intellectual stimulation and an aesthetic visual media.

For good measure, appadi podhu, podhu, podhu!!

Doctorate to Vijay?! How insulting!! That for his contribution towards "poor & downtrodden" in the society?!!!! He has not even given a drop sweat to these people!!! If these guys want to do "adi-varudal" (for reasons God only knows!) let them do it! But to say that he helped the poor is outright lie and totally removed from truth - Scoundrels! Scumbags!! Let them rot in hell!!!

Man, I am so glad that I quit my Ph.D and never got my Ph.D!! I would have hung myself if I had my doctorate!!!!

Never imagined that Tamil Nadu would stoop so low!!!

dr. vijay! too much...absolutely unwarranted at such a young age when he has lots more to prove in the cine world as an actor. and, his "social welfare activities" have paled in comparison to what people who truly immerse themselves in noble causes, do. but oh well, these doctorates and other awards have come to mean so little that it doesnt matter...last year, i was shocked to see the golltee who played nasser's father in MMKR get the kalaimaamani award! wonder if he's acted in anything noteworthy post MMKR!

congrats to Jo and Suriya...their girl baby I hope looks more like Jo!

  15. Dr.Vijay.. It looks more like a movie title than the title given to star.
The worst part is that a ISRO scientist is heading the function. Should an ISRO scientist stoop down to this level?

  17. Hey u guys,Vijay really deserves the awrd for his contribution. he has done a great deed indeed...

    1) Wipe all the rowdies from chennai in "Thirupachi".

    2) Rescues a Damsel in Distress in "Ghilli"

    3) Help to kill a notorious kingpin in "Aadhi" and "Madurey"

    4) Give free lawyer service to the poor and helpless in "Tamizhan" and "Sukran"

so now tell, does Vijay deserve the award now..

Arpanuku valvu vanthaal..(here I mean the DR.MGR univ and it's founders).

Satyaraj got a Dr. Kamal got a Dr.
Since ,now Vijay makes more hits than them, so Vijay gets a Dr.

Just to place them, where they belong, from now on, they should also say the University, that awarded the Dr.

These guys single handedly diminished the value of Doctorate.

Ganesh. Probably you deserve a Dr. for abstract thinking and comments. (jus kidding. no pun intended)

I didn't know what Srivatsan was referring to when he mentioned Kaanal Neer Riteesh's name.. but it all makes sense now. Srivatsan, not sure if you did a prediction off the top of your head, or just sheer coincidence or you had read this article before you made that comment. Weird but true! :-)

Bart, this is inevitable. Maybe Vasu's supposed adventure with Kamal is not panning out at this time, he figured he'd milk the fattest cow (figure of speech! :-) nearby to keep himself on the radar. He knows better than anyone that KSR has taken kuththagai of Rajini again.. No surprise that Vasu wants a piece of the cake too!.. Ellaam Sivaji seiyum maayam!

  30. Salman is being given the Rajiv Gandhi award which sounds as rediculous as Vijay getting the Doctorate award. i think vijay seems to be a more deserving candidate than Salman, as the latter is a criminal with high profile charges against him. looks like the awards have gone crazy..
